The personnel manager of a major corporation tells how he first went to work for his company.
He had been laid off and had a growing family . Unfortunately this individual had very little professional experience. One day he got a call from an employment agency. A personnel department had just come across a listing. This person was asked if he was interested.
In spite of his eagerness and the urgency of his financial situation the applicant set the interview date several weeks away rather than asking for a more prompt interview date. Research skills came into play - at the downtown Winnipeg main branch of the Winnipeg library a librarian assisted me with professional research skills. As well the internet was a wonderful source of information and data on the firm - its philosophy , its growth , and of course not only the personalities involved but the issues facing the firm at the present , in the past and most importantly in the future. In addition I learnt about all the branch offices and satellite companies - what their role was in the overall organization as well as organizational plans and planning.
A list and map of key corporate officers was developed and came into play. A map began to develop of where the company was headed and what some of the upcoming problems and obstacles to growth were perceived to be , and most importantly what appeared to be.
